TRICKSTER CHOICE FULL
Slayers are probably the optimal class as they get Rogue Talents, Sneak Attack, Full BAB, Martial Weapon Proficiencies, and are Int secondary so they will have good Skill Checks for Trickster Tricks. This means Full BAB Martial Weapon builds will get the most out of those feats. Next, there is a +4 physical stats belt that can be crafted in Act 5 that auto confirms crits, so your threat range and AB are really all that matters.

There also quite a few good ones in game. Just don't neglect your attack bonuses and you'll be golden (or blood-spattered, I guess).įirst, Falchions have an 18-20 Crit Range, decedent damage die, benefit from Power Attack, and only require martial weapon proficiency. Full BAB classes can help here, Clerics with beneficial domains, Bards, powerful buff spells, Evil Eye, Mark of Justice, Shatter Defenses, Dimension Strike, etc. That just means that if you want to take that high crit range weapon, you will also want to stack your attack bonuses to high heavens so you can actually take advantage of it. Even if you hit, you only threaten, and still have to confirm.

If you roll in your threat range (the 11-20 part) on anything other than a 20 (or 1), you have to actually hit against their AC, or the attack will miss entirely, which means no crit for you. You are guaranteed to deal some damage, but you'll only crit if you confirm that threat (which can be done automatically with some class features or spells, like Bless Weapon), by rolling again with all the exact same attack modifiers and trying to "hit" against the same AC. When you roll a 20 (or 1 as well on a Trickster) you both auto-hit, and threaten a critical. The other consideration is *how* you're attacking are you making full attacks, or Vital Striking? Full Attacks are more weapon-type agnostic, but Vital Strike builds make the most sense with a high-threat weapon because you generally care more about critting than how smoothly you can puree the enemy chunks that you overkill.įinally, that large crit range you can get with a scimitar/kukri/ecb? That 11-20? Well, that doesn't do anything for you if you can only hit on a natural 20.

Elven curve blade is the obvious choice for most 2h Finesse builds, but Fighter's Finesse can let you abuse polearm reach if desired. extra melee range while bloodraging, which stacks with polearm reach and Enlarge Person/Legendary Proportions). Being able to clear a room from behind your tanks makes you much safer, and the reach also helps you capitalize on Outflank (protip: level 16 Serpentine Primalist Bloodragers can get Pounce, Lethal Accuracy, and 5 ft. The fauchard, on the other hand, is just a fantastic weapon type for quality of life. Trick Fate also gives it a leg up in some scenarios.

While I wouldn't normally choose my weapon type exclusively based on a unique weapon only available later in the game, Wide Sweep is available really early, and is powerful enough to last you the rest of the game, so I think scythe is truly very competitive. If dual-wielding using a DEX build, you'll probably want to take kukris, unless you can fit enough Fighter levels in your build to qualify for Fighter's Finesse, and ideally Effortless Dual-Wielding as well.įor 2-handed builds, it comes down to preference. If you plan to dual-wield with a STR build, your best option of the five (and imo a meaningfully better option than a kukri, considering the availability of Trick Fate) is the falcata (kukris would be ok, though, and unique item effects can make or break a build even ignoring crit synergy, so go ahead if you see something you like). In terms of damage output, they're pretty similar with Improved and Mythic Improved Critical, all 3 Trickster crit feats, Knowledge: World Rank 2 Mythic Trick, and Lethal Accuracy from a Skald, average crit damage over base weapon damages + modifiers are as follows:
TRICKSTER CHOICE FREE
Scythe and kukri are the only options out of the five that don't require exotic proficiency (ecb is free for elves, though) falcata and kukri can be dual-wielded ecb can be Finesse 2-handed and fauchard is the only option that can outrange enemies with polearms. The best melee crit weapons (numerically, not counting unique items) as a Trickster are fauchard for reach, scythe for Wide Sweep (unique item, I lied a bit), kukri/elven curve blade(ecb) for Weapon Finesse, or falcata for the best average damage (crit nearly as often as fauchard, crit nearly as hard as scythe). I left a comment earlier today on the subject, and figured I should make an actual post so it isn't buried in an unrelated thread.
